Our Social Enterprise of the Week:
Hack Back CIC
Hack Back CIC are a social enterprise transforming lives through interaction with animals, specifically birds of prey.
Their Vision / Mission:
Hack Back use animal assisted therapy to help their clients achieve their full potential and lead fulfilling lives. They work with children, people suffering from mental health problems including depression and anxiety, and people with autism, ADHD, and Down’s Syndrome. Hack Back’s innovative approach uses interaction with animals, as well as support from qualified psychologists and appropriate therapeutic techniques to transform the lives of their clients.
Hack Back’s vision is a world where all people are valued equally, listened to, and included and where nature is valued and respected. Their fun and interactive experiences improve the lives of their clients who may be facing difficulties. They bring their animals into hospices and hospital wards to brighten the day of the people there. Their owls are even trained to fly to wheelchair users and people can choose how hands-on they want their experience with the animals to be. Hack Back also use interaction with nature to assist the learning of children in schools, looking at important subjects such as bullying, healthy eating, and self-esteem and confidence. As well as running sessions for carers, people with high-stress jobs and older people suffering from dementia.
Why We Chose Them:
Hack Back help hundreds of people improve their mental health and well-being. Many people suffer in silence with mental health issues so it’s great that Hack Back are addressing this and have discovered the benefits of nature and animals as a tool to improve this. They are also teaching children and young people to respect animals and nature in a fun, exciting and interactive way, which is really important.
The Work They Do:
How They Align With Our Values:
We love the fact that Hack Back are inclusive to everyone and envision a world where everyone is treated equally. This is something we strongly agree with here at Ground Up Digital, as we believe everyone should be given fair chances in life. This is why we try to hire people who may have previously struggled to find work due to neurodiversity or past mistakes.
