Our Social Enterprise of the Week:
Living Potential Care Farming
Living Potential Care Farming offer a supportive environment where people with learning disabilities can learn new skills, gain confidence, and meet new people.
Their Vision / Mission:
Based in Wetherby, Living Potential Care Farming are a social enterprise dedicated to helping people reach their full potential. They help disabled people, people with learning disabilities and people suffering from dementia to gain skills and experience while working on a real farm. They offer work experience, activities, workshops and events all in a supportive environment for people with additional needs.
Volunteers get to experience what is involved in running a farm and participate in a huge range of activities from caring for animals to gardening and planting trees. Working alongside animals and nature can be incredibly therapeutic, boosting both physical and mental wellbeing and reducing mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Living Potential Care Farming understand the positive impact spending time outside can have on people’s lives and so organise a range of outdoor activities for all their volunteers.
Why We Chose Them:
Feelings of isolation and loneliness are often common among people with disabilities so it’s great that Living Potential Care Farming have found a solution to this problem. Through volunteering on the farm people with learning disabilities are able to socialise, gain new experiences and have fun all in a safe and supportive environment.
The Work They Do:
How They Align With Our Values:
We love the fact that Living Potential Care Farming are inclusive to everyone and are constantly improving their services to make them accessible to all. Their mission of providing work experience and training to marginalised people closely aligns with our social objective, as we aim to hire individuals who may have struggled previously to find work.
