Our Social Enterprise of the Week:
Nuvo Wellbeing are a social enterprise delivering affordable, fun and innovative fitness classes to people of all ages. They help people and communities to feel positive, be active and live well.
Their Vision / Mission:
Established in 2008, Nuvo Wellbeing are passionate about health, wellbeing and physical activity innovation. They support people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to encourage increased fitness levels, personal development and healthy lifestyles. As well as running fitness classes for adults, Nuvo Wellbeing also work with children and young people in schools and colleges. They make exercise fun and introduce young people to the importance of healthy living, getting them into healthy habits for later life.
Regular physical activity not only helps keep the body healthy but also improves mood and self-esteem, making it especially important for mental wellbeing. Exercise can have a huge effect on attitude, with 98% of people feeling happier after attending one of Nuvo Wellbeing’s classes. Nuvo Wellbeing have recognised this and work hard to come up with ways to make their fitness classes accessible to all. They do a large amount of work with older people in care homes, who may find it difficult to exercise, and come up with innovative ways to get them involved. For example, they deliver chair dance classes for people who are less mobile and reminiscence activities for people living with dementia. These projects are very beneficial to elderly people as they help maintain independence and mobility, as well as providing an enjoyable way to spend their time.
As well as helping people with dementia remain healthy and active, Nuvo Wellbeing also run classes to increase awareness of dementia, open to anyone who wants to learn more. This is a great way to support not only those living with dementia but also their families and friends.
Why We Chose Them:
Due to the social distancing measures in place at the moment, Nuvo Wellbeing are unable to run their classes face to face for the time being. However, they haven’t let this stop them and are now running a variety of fitness classes online, helping everyone keep fit at home. They are also sharing tips on staying physically and mentally healthy while in lockdown, across their social media channels.
Nuvo Wellbeing are also continuing to support their most vulnerable clients by offering free online sessions to keep them active and their spirits up. These classes ensure they can remain in contact with these clients and makes isolation less lonely for everyone.
The Work They Do:
How They Align With Our Values:
Nuvo Wellbeing offer their classes to everyone and believe that opportunities should not be limited because of where people live or by unaffordable prices. They support people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to increase fitness levels and sustain healthy lifestyles. The idea of giving everyone fair chances in life is something that closely aligns with our values here at Ground Up Digital. We are a social enterprise whose mission is to hire people who may have struggled to find employment elsewhere due to disability, neurodiversity or past mistakes. We believe in giving people the tools and opportunities to help improve their lives and love the fact that Nuvo Wellbeing agree with this too.
